In August 2021, I debuted djSwade Radio on Pandora. Because I enjoyed the songs and artists so much, I decided to pick three that I really dug and describe what spoke to me about them. I had a blast doing it, so I'm making it a monthly thing. My only criteria for picking these songs is that I really enjoy them. It doesn't matter to me whether they're old or new as long as they groove. So, in no particular order, here are my picks for October 2021.
When I was a kid (not so long ago), I used to listen to a song called "Love's Theme" by the Love Unlimited Orchestra. It made me feel like I was flying. Hell, it just made me feel great. This song makes me feel the same way. I get the sensation of soaring over the world, admiring the beauty, my troubles a million miles away. It starts with the recurring keyboard riff backed by rich strings. Then, with about a minute left in the song, a dreamy guitar joins in. This is a great tune for background music and you can also listen to it in active mode.
I dig the title of this song. There's something infinite about an open sky. It opens up so many possibilities. In his biography, the composer, Ryan Farish, describes his music as “positive chillout.” I can definitely hear that. This song has some very cool and accomplished instrumentation, blending keyboards, strings and choir. The flow and feel of this song is captivating. It puts me in a state of relaxation and a positive, euphoric state of mind. This is another song that you can listen to in a passive or active mode.
The title of this song conjures visions of a sumptuous dessert, and the music is just as tasty. In their biography, Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones describe themselves as "a production and DJ duo" who were heavily involved in late '90s trance. This song is downtempo with a contemplative feel to it. It's perfect for a fall day when it's cold outside and you're inside keeping warm. I've listened to this song while I'm working on projects or doing detailed work. It really locks in my concentration. Of course, I can also listen to if I want to take it down a notch at the end of a busy day.
All these songs are highly recommended. You can hear them on djSwade Radio. You can also click the direct link to each song, artist or album provided above. If you like what you hear on djSwade Radio, you can listen to my album Audiostrata (available on Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music and YouTube Music), as well as my new single "Lemon Cello" (available on Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music and YouTube Music), as well.
