Lemon Cello Reimagined!

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

I released a single titled "Lemon Cello" last October. I was pleased with how well it was received and I have to admit that it's one of my favorite compositions. Since then, I've been experimenting with alternate mixes and arrangements of the song. One is what I call the "rain mix." I'm happy to say that I've finished that up and it just made its debut! The other is a lofi mix that'll come out later this year.

I had a great time reimagining the song. The cellos are gone, replaced by piano. The beat is a little more laid back. I would call the arrangement spare, but not quite bare bones. The reason it's called the rain mix is because that's the feel I had when I finished the arrangement. That's why I added some rain and thunder. It comes and goes throughout the mix. The original "Lemon Cello" had kind of a start of vacation, beach vibe to it. In comparison, the rain mix is a comforting companion for a rainy day at home, away from all the troubles and challenges of the world (if only for a short time).

It occurred to me that it might seem a bit odd to name a song "Lemon Cello" and not have any cellos (or lemons) in evidence. After giving it some thought, I'm okay with that! The cellos (and the lemons) are there in spirit, even if we can't hear or see them. We definitely have rain, so that's a plus! Regardless, it's a pleasure to take a song that started out simply as a title (check out this blog post and this blog post for more on that), a fragment of an idea, and see it to fruition. It's also rewarding to reimagine it and create offspring that have a common bond, but are unique in their own way. In this case, between the rain and lofi mixes, it's kind of like fraternal twins that happen to get along really well. However you want to look at it, I hope you enjoy the reimagining!
